A Number Two Pencil Mark Changed My Life Forever
I remember the day I first realized that I would become a pharmacy technician. It was just over thirty years ago, and I was already a sworn in member of the Individual Ready Reserve for the USAF. My recruiter had phoned to tell me the good news. Before I go any further, let me back up a few months to a crazy day at the MEPS. (That’s Military Entrance Processing Station for any of you who are not familiar with the acronym MEPS)
We had received our test scores that determine what jobs we had qualified for. I was so excited that I made the scores for all the computer jobs that I once dreamed about. They had told us of a shortage of personnel in the medical field, so we were encouraged to include as one of our choices, a job from the medical list along with our other “picks”. I penciled in the bubble by the words pharmacy specialist never thinking for a second that little scribble of the number 2 pencil would change the entire trajectory of my professional career life.
Now, back to the day my recruiter called. He sounded excited… “You’re going to be a Pharmacy Specialist!” I just stopped in my tracks. All my hopes of working in the computer technology arena went straight down the drain. Little did I know that all of it was in the master plan. I was destined to be a pharmacy technician. Looking back, I couldn’t be prouder of the career path that was CHOSEN for me. And now, I am even more proud to be a part of your start into such an exciting career field. Here’s to you and whatever 2018 brings. Thanks for stopping by and taking a trip down memory lane with me.
